Adineta sp.18, creeping specimen, dorsoventral view. This is one of several morphotypes that have been found in the ephemeral puddles (lithotelma; see image below) on the granite rocks of the coast of Brittany (France). (Another Adineta morphotype from such a lithotelma is documented here). This morphotype is characterised by the red-orange color of the integument. There are some Adineta-species listed in the literature with red integument: A. grandis/ A. fontanetoi and A. emsliei. (1) |

Adineta sp.18, three aspects of the anterior part, from dorsal to ventral: |
1. Focus plane on the dorsal area with ?nerve cells? |
2. optical median section; focus plane on the brain (Br), mastax (Mx), and the dorsal mastax glands (DMG). The asterisks mark hypodermis cells. SC: sensory cilia; RL: rostrum lamella. The buccal tube length is short (ratio BTL : RaL ≈ 1) |
3. ventral view Focus plane on the ciliary field. The arrows point to the prehensile apparatus with back-folded rakes, so that the U-hooks are only allusively visible. (1) |

Adineta sp.18, left image: foot with short spurs (ratio SL : SSW ≈ 0.65 ) and distinct tip. Interspace between spurs (ratio SIW : SBW≈ 2.2). Right image: short dorsal antena, frontal view. (1) |

Adineta sp.18; two aspects of the ramate trophi with dental formula 2/2; left: cephalic view; right: caudal view. From the left image the number of minor teeth is 29 in each uncus. Ramus length (RaL) is 21µm. (1) |

Adineta sp.18; this specimen is from the same sample, which had been dried for 18 months befor water was added again. Two hours later this image of a living and creeping specimen was taken. (2) |

|
This morphotype differs from Adineta sp.17, which has also a reddish integument, by the form of the rostrum lamella and the NoUH; which is 5/5 in A. sp. 17. |
